Pathway

Transition Tunbridge Wells was started by a small group of enthusiastic people in Spring 2008. We now have a Steering Group, or "Core Group" of about 8 people who meet twice a month to plan events and publicity. The idea is that this group of founder members will will gradually be replaced by the leaders of the various working groups, as and when they are formed.

Our role is not to come up with all the answers, but to act as a catalyst for the community to come up with its own unique way of gradually returning to sustainability.

The Process...

Raising Awareness

Our aim is to raise the profile of the initiative and get as many people as possible to join in and to take part in helping or initiating events that will contribute to creating a more resilient community.

Creating an Energy Descent Plan

The eventual aim is to enable those in the community who wish to join in, to engage with each other and learn new skills which will enable the town as a whole to become resilient to change. People will become more self sufficient and flexible in dealing with the issues of rising consumer costs and energy reductions.

We have already started working groups to build community led, sustainable initiatives in the areas of food and energy, but we need your help so we can expand our activities into new areas such as:

  • transport
  • building & housing
  • waste
  • local currency

We are not publicly funded or politically aligned and anyone can join us. The only qualification is enthusiasm! Get involved!
