Transition Tunbridge Wells

We are a group of local volunteers who are part of a rapidly growing, inspiring new movement which started in Totnes in 2006 and has now spread throughout the whole world.

The issues

Green issues have now reached every area of modern life - from washing powder adverts on TV to storylines in the Archers. While most people are now aware of the issue of Climate Change, few people are aware of the future impact of Peak Oil.

This is the problem that conventional global oil production is in decline, while demand is rising faster than ever as countries like China and India start to catch up with us in terms of industrialisation, car-use and other consumption. This means that oil is inevitably going to rise in price in the future, which will impact on every aspect of life.

Future generations, including those who are children now, will be growing up in a very different world to the one we know, and it is crucial that we start to prepare for this lifestyle change now.

The solution

The Transition movement is not about waiting for politicians and Local Government to do something - it's about ordinary people acting locally, and acting now, to respond to the combined impact of Climate Change and Peak Oil.
